From 23 March, the obligation to have a test, recovery or vaccination certificate will no longer apply when you travel to the Netherlands
As of 23 March, the obligation to have a test, recovery or vaccination certificate will no longer apply to people traveling to the Netherlands from within the EU/Schengen. There are therefore no more entry measures for EU citizens who travel to the Netherlands from outside the EU/Schengen. A health declaration is still required for both groups.
An EU entry ban still applies to non-EU citizens. There are exceptions, for example for travel from safe countries and for certain travel purposes. The test obligation expires.
As of March 23, the Netherlands will also accept recovery certificates issued on the basis of a (positive) antigen test. We now only do this for recovery certificates issued on the basis of positive PCR tests.
Anyone traveling to the Netherlands is advised to do a self-test immediately upon arrival in the Netherlands and on day 5 after arrival.
Entering the Netherlands and the European entry ban for travelers from countries outside the EU
Non-EU citizens are still subject to an EU entry ban due to the corona pandemic. This will continue after March 23. Fortunately, large groups are exempt from the entry ban, such as:
- Travelers coming from safe countries.
- Travelers who have been vaccinated or recovered.
- People in a long distance relationship.
- Foreign relatives.
Visa-required travelers outside the EU must travel with a Schengen visa
If a foreign guest wants to travel to the Netherlands and is subject to a visa requirement, a Schengen visa for a short stay must first be applied for. Even if the person falls under an exception category for the entry ban. The visa requirement still applies.
