A Short Stay Visa for the Netherlands (maximum 90 days)
A Short Stay Visa (Schengen visa) is an official permission that you need to stay in the Netherlands for a limited time. This is usually for tourist or business purposes. The Short Stay Visa is not intended for people who want to emigrate to the Netherlands or who want to live there for a longer period of time.
To be eligible for a Short Stay Visa, you must meet a number of requirements conditions to fulfil. For example, you must have a valid passport and you must demonstrate that you have sufficient means of existence to pay for your stay in the Netherlands. You must also demonstrate that you have a valid return ticket and that you have a residence permit for the country you will be going to after your stay in the Netherlands.
The Short Stay Visa is usually valid for a period of 90 days. This means that you can stay in the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days. If you want to stay longer, you must apply for a different type of visa, such as a long stay visa.
Is there a difference between a Short Stay Visa and a Schengen Visa?
There is no difference between one Visa Short Stay (VKV) or a Schengen visa. With both terms we mean the same thing, but a Schengen visa is a bit easier to communicate, which is why we mainly talk about a Schengen visa on this website.
Create a short stay visa for the Netherlands is valid for a maximum of 90 days. You will receive the visa for the number of days indicated in the application. The short stay visa (type C), the visa sticker, states:
- From which date the visa is valid (from that day your guest may Schengen area in travel).
- How many days the foreigner may be in the Schengen area.
- From which date the visa is no longer valid (the guest must then be out of the Schengen area).
- Whether you can enter the Schengen area once (single entry) or several times (multiple entry) with the valid visa.
There are two types of short stay visa:
- Create a single entry visa with a validity of up to 90 days. This allows you to stay in the Netherlands/Schengen area for a maximum of 1 days once.
- Create a multiple entry visa with a validity period of up to 5 years. This permit allows a maximum stay of 90 days per 180 days in the Netherlands/Schengen area. This does not have to be consecutive. You can also distribute this. But the foreigner may never stay in the Netherlands/Schengen area for more than 90 days out of 180 days.
