How do you track the status of your Schengen visa application for the Netherlands?
When you have applied for a Schengen visa for the Netherlands , you may want to know the status of your application. You can track the status of your application online. To do so, select the location/organization where you submitted the application to see how you can track the status of your visa application online.
It is important to check the status with the service provider where you submitted the Schengen visa application. This could be:
- VFS Global (third party service provider).
- The Dutch embassy or consulate.
- TLScontact (external service provider)
Track visa application status with VFS Global
Have you submitted an application to VFS Global ? Then you can check the status of your application on the VFS Global website. Follow these steps:
- Go to the VFS Global website (information in English).
- Choose your country of residence and your destination.
- Click on 'Take me to the website'.
- Go to 'Track your application'.
- Enter your name and the reference number you received with your visa application.
- Click on 'Submit' to view the status of your request.
Do you use VFS Global's SMS alerts ? Then you will receive a text message about the status of your visa application.

Follow the status of your visa application at a Dutch embassy or consulate general
Did you receive a code during your application? Then you can track the status of your application online. Go through the following steps:
- Open the track & trace system.
- Choose the country where you applied and your language.
- Click on 'Submit'.
- Enter the code.
- Click on 'Submit' to view the status of your request.
Did you not receive a code during your application? Then it is not possible to track the status of your application online.
Follow the status of visa application at TLScontact
Have you submitted a request to TLScontact? Then you can look up the status of your visa application on the TLScontact website. Go through the following steps:
- Go to the TLScontact website (information in English).
- Select your country of residence and destination at the bottom of the page.
- Click 'Go'.
- Choose the office where you made the application.
- Log in with your email address and password to view the status of your application.
When will I receive a message about my visa application for the Netherlands?
Have you applied for a Schengen visa or airport transit visa for the Netherlands? If so, you will usually receive notification regarding the decision on your application within 15 days. However, there are exceptions: in some situations, it takes up to 45 days.
Within three days
You will receive an email when a decision has been made on your visa application. This is usually within 15 calendar days after the appointment for your visa application.
You do not yet know whether you have been granted the Schengen visa . You will only know this once you have received your passport back. You will then see whether the Schengen visa sticker has been placed in your passport or if your application has been refused. In the event of a visa application being refused, there will be an accompanying document stating the reasons for the refusal.
Exceptions: within 45 days
There are exceptions. In the following two situations, it takes longer than 15 calendar days. It then takes a maximum of 45 calendar days before you receive a message about your visa application.
If you need to show more documents
Sometimes the Dutch government requires more documents from you to assess your application. In that case, the application will take longer than 15 calendar days. You will receive an email with the decision on your application within 45 calendar days.
If it is very busy
If many people apply for a visa at the same time, your application may take longer than 15 calendar days. You will then receive an e-mail with the decision on your application within 45 calendar days.
