What do you need for a Schengen visa application?
Vietnamese who want to travel to the Netherlands must take the following steps for the visa application:
- You must present a Vietnamese passport or other travel document with at least 2 blank pages. Your travel document must have been issued within the past 10 years. It must be valid for at least 3 months after the date on which you want to leave the Schengen area.
- You submit a fully completed and signed visa application form. Each person traveling on your travel document must submit their own form. Forms for children under the age of 18 must be signed by a parent or guardian.
- You submit a passport photo in accordance with Dutch requirements.
- You have your fingerprints taken. You do this when you submit the application. These remain valid for 5 years. For some applicants, such as children under the age of 12, this is not necessary.
- You pay fees, which are the costs for a visa application. If you go to an external service provider, such as VFS Global, you also pay a fee for this.
In addition, there are documents that are required for a careful assessment of your application, such as proof of medical travel insurance. The insurance must be valid for the entire duration of the stay. Medical costs must be covered for a minimum of €30.000 and cover repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care and emergency hospital treatment.

Medical travel insurance and guarantee
If you guarantee a foreign guest or partner who wants to visit the Netherlands, it is advisable to take out medical travel insurance yourself. Not only is this a requirement for your guest's visa application, but it also provides financial protection for you. As a guarantor, you are financially responsible for any medical costs that your guest incurs during their stay in the Netherlands, and these costs can be significant.
By taking out the insurance yourself and sending the policy to the visa applicant by email, you have control over the process. It is advisable to ensure that you are the policyholder (the person paying the premium) and that your guest is the insured person. A major advantage of this is that any damage payments are transferred to you instead of to your guest's bank account.
A good option for this situation is the Schengen insurance that we offer. This is an excellent travel medical insurance policy specifically designed for Schengen visa applications. It provides the necessary coverage and meets the requirements for obtaining a Schengen visa. By taking out this insurance, you ensure that you meet the visa requirements and offer both yourself and your guest financial protection during their stay in the Netherlands.
