What is a Schengen visa?
A visa is an official permission to enter and stay in a country. A visa is usually issued by the embassy or consulate of the country the traveler is going to. A Schengen visa is actually nothing more than a sticker in the passport of foreign travelers visiting the Netherlands or other Schengen countries. Formally, the name of a Schengen visa is: 'Visa Short Stay Type C'. but the term 'Schengen visa' or 'Schengen visa' is somewhat easier. The main advantage of a Schengen visa is that it gives access to 26 European countries that belong to it Schengen area.
Compulsory insurance for Schengen visa
The European Council requires that medical insurance must be presented with every visa application. This serves to cover any expenses in the event of repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care or emergency treatment in a hospital. The Schengen visa insurance must be valid throughout the territory of the Schengen member states and must be valid for the entire duration of the stay. The minimum cover is € 30.000.

Frequently asked questions and answers about Schengen visa insurance (Travel Risk Insurance)
When applying for or collecting the visa, the visa applicant must be able to demonstrate that visa insurance has been taken out for the period of stay in the Netherlands. The reason for this is that the Schengen countries do not want to pay for any costs of a foreign guest, such as hospital costs. Moreover, insurance is a (financial) protection for someone who acts as guarantor.
The visa insurance must cover any expenses related to repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care and/or emergency hospital treatment. The medical travel insurance to be taken out must be valid for the entire Schengen area, have a minimum cover of € 30.000 and cover the entire duration of the intended stay. Proof of the original insurance policy must be submitted when submitting the application or only when the visa is issued.
Yes, that is not a problem. You are then the policyholder (pays the premium) and the foreign guest is the insured.
You authorize the insurer for direct debit on the application form. The premium is usually debited from your payment account just before the start date of the insurance.
No, if a visa application is rejected and the insurance has not yet commenced, you will receive a full refund of the premium.
You will receive the policy digitally by e-mail (including the conditions). You can then e-mail the policy to your foreign guest.
Basically the same day or the next day. Requests received over the weekend will be processed on Monday.
Before the policy has taken effect, the start date and/or end date of the policy can be adjusted, no problem at all.
If there is a guarantee (the foreign guest stays with the guarantor), the travel insurance is also for the financial protection of that person. With a Dutch travel insurance you fall under Dutch law. Dutch insurers are subject to strict supervision and are usually more reliable than foreign insurers. That is a nice idea in case of high costs.
The visa insurance provides cover for providing assistance, reimbursing extraordinary costs and medical costs:
– Assistance: you can count on professional help and advice 24 hours a day in the event of illness or accidents.
– Repatriation: costs for repatriation (return to home country) due to illness or death.
– Extraordinary costs: costs that must be incurred in an emergency (such as extra travel or accommodation costs) will be reimbursed.
– Medical costs: medical costs incurred as a result of an accident or illness during the period of validity of the insurance are insured up to a maximum of € 30.000.
– Dental costs: incurred as a result of an accident.
– Theft of your travel documents.
– Delayed arrival of the luggage.
With the Travel Risk insurance you are insured against corona if you go to the Netherlands.
In Europe you are only insured for corona in yellow areas (travel advice).
No, this insurance is not intended for that. The costs for pregnancy are for your own account.
Ailments and complaints that already existed on or before the commencement date of the insurance are not insured and are therefore not eligible for compensation. The travel insurance for foreigners is only intended for sudden and unexpected medical costs in the Netherlands or other Schengen countries.
