Take biometric data
When you first use a applying for a Schengen visa there is a good chance that you will have to provide biometric data. Biometric data are characteristics with which it is possible to determine the identity of a person. Unique parts of the body are used for this, for example a fingerprint.
If you have to provide fingerprints, this will be done when you submit the application. These biometric data remain valid for 5 years. For some applicants, such as children under the age of 12, this is not necessary.
What do I have to do to issue biometric data?
You only have to put your hand on a fingerprint scan and a scan is made of your fingertips. Together with your fingerprint, the passport photo scanned. The biometric enrollment process takes up to 5 minutes. The data will be stored in the Visa Information System (SCREW).
If you have injuries to your fingertips, you can only make an appointment for the visa application once your injuries have healed.
If you refuse to provide biometric data, your visa application will not be accepted.
Visa applicants under the age of 12, persons who are unable to give permission, or persons who are physically unable to have the fingerprint scan taken can suffice with a passport photo.
