A Schengen visa overstay is a situation when a foreign national stays longer in the Netherlands or the Schengen area than is allowed with the visa. Nationalities that do not require a visa can also be faced with an overstay if they stay in the Schengen area for longer than 90 days.
How long is a Schengen visa valid for?
A short-stay Schengen visa allows you to stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days (within a period of 180 days). You always get a visa for a certain period. It can also be shorter than 90 days. As long as your visa is valid, you can travel freely between the 26 Schengen countries.
IND: Temporary relaxation of MVV requirement due to COVID-19
The IND is introducing a relaxation with regard to collecting the MVV. Under certain conditions, collecting the MVV will be waived.
