Note: This information is no longer current. Since September 17, 2022, there are no longer any corona rules for travelers to the Netherlands. You can travel to the Netherlands without a long-distance relationship statement, proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or negative test result. If you are subject to a visa requirement, you must of course first apply for a Schengen visa.
The measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 also have consequences for the right of residence of foreign nationals. Traveling abroad is discouraged, and it is currently difficult for a number of nationalities to travel (again) because of the flight ban.
The IND has also received various signals that make it clear that this could put people in a difficult position.
That is why the relaxation already taken in 2020 with regard to collecting the MVV applied again. This concerns persons who have not been able to travel back to their country of origin since 15 June 2020 due to the discouragement of travel movements, but for whom an MVV application has been started abroad and has been granted. And for persons who entered the Netherlands between 15 June 2020 and 23 January and who have not been able to travel back since 15 June 2020, and for whom an MVV application has been started in the Netherlands and has been granted. Under certain conditions, collecting the MVV will be waived.
Finally, a temporary measure has been taken with regard to persons who are legally resident in the Netherlands and who threaten to end up in a force majeure situation due to the discouragement of travel movements. These persons are offered the option of applying for a residence permit without an MVV if they meet a number of conditions.
Read more about the conditions for relaxation of the MVV requirement on the IND page about the corona virus.
