A Short Stay Visa for the Netherlands is often referred to as a Schengen visa
As a visa-required foreign guest to The Netherlands If you want to travel for a maximum of 90 days, you usually need a visa. Whether someone needs a visa depends on his/her nationality. Immediately Visa Short Stay you can travel to the Schengen countries and Switzerland.
A Short Stay Visa type C. is usually a Schengen visa mentioned because the visa is valid in all Schengen countries, namely: Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Greece, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Malta, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
With 1 visa to 27 countries
A foreign traveler therefore only needs 1 visa for 27 countries. A person requiring a visa must apply for a Schengen visa in person at the Dutch representation in the country of origin or residence. A Dutch representation is the embassy or consulate. Often there is cooperation with an external service provider such as VFS Global. They take the visa application and the accompanying documents. You cannot submit the visa application earlier than 6 months before you want to travel to the Netherlands. Keep in mind that a visa application takes time. Please request this on time. Never book the trip definitively before you are sure whether you will receive the Short Stay Visa for the Netherlands.
Conditions for a Short Stay Visa in the Netherlands
If you want to apply for a Short Stay Visa for the Netherlands, you must meet the following conditions:
- You have a valid travel document, for example a passport. The travel document must be valid for 3 months after the end of the visa period. It should also not be older than 10 years.
- You are not a threat to public order, national security or the international relations of one of the Schengen countries.
- You have a destination in the Netherlands. For example, a hotel reservation or an invitation from a referent (partner, family, friend, etc.) in the Netherlands. This sponsor has a valid residence permit or is a Dutch national. The sponsor uses the Proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation form.
- You have sufficient financial means for the stay in the Netherlands, the transit and/or the return journey:
- You have at least € 55 per person per day for the duration of your stay in the Netherlands or someone in the Netherlands guarantees you. This can be the inviting referent, but also a random third person. The guarantor has sufficient income. At the time of the application, this income must still be available for at least 12 months. The sponsor uses the Proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation form, together with the additional documents listed under checklist.
- You have a (medical) Travel Insurance which is closed in the name of the visa applicant. The person in the Netherlands who invites you can also take out this insurance for you. The insurance has coverage of at least €30.000 for medical expenses in the Schengen area. The insurance will in any case cover the following costs:
- Costs for returning to the country of origin for medical reasons (repatriation).
- Urgent medical care and emergency treatment in hospital.
- You have sufficient reasons to return to your country of origin or residence. For example, because you have a job there, (school-going) children or your own house. A return ticket alone is not enough to prove this.
A decision on a visa application within 15 days
A decision on the visa application will be made within a period of 15 days. If the application is submitted to the IND, the decision period can be extended to 30 days. If you meet all the conditions, you will receive a Short Stay Visa.
A Short Stay Visa is pasted as a sticker in your passport
You can then pick up the visa at the Dutch representation where you applied or the passport will be sent to your home address by courier. A Short Stay Visa is a type C visa and is stuck as a sticker in your passport.
Remember that when you enter the Netherlands, you may be checked again. It is therefore advisable to have all the information and documents with you that you also needed for the visa application.
