A visa application for the Netherlands can be submitted at the earliest 6 months and at the latest 15 calendar days before the start of the intended travel date. Our advice is to submit an application well in advance of the intended departure date.
You can apply for a Schengen visa through the Dutch embassy in the country where your foreign guest lives. Usually, the Dutch embassy has outsourced the visa processing to an external service provider such as VFS Global. They will process the visa application, check whether all documents are enclosed and forward them to The Hague. Visa applications are processed there by the Consular Service Organization (CSO), which is an independent service unit within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Subsequently, the passport of the visa applicant together with a covering letter about the granting or denial of the visa is returned to VFS Global.
Visa application must be complete and include supporting documents
A visa application starts with filling in a visa application form and then collecting the required documents such as proof of travel medical insurance. It is best to use the checklist from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Remember that you will have to prove the purpose of the visit and you must also be able to prove that your foreign guest will return to the country of origin.
