Note: This information is no longer current. Since September 17, 2022, there are no longer any corona rules for travelers to the Netherlands. You can travel to the Netherlands without a long-distance relationship statement, proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or negative test result. If you are subject to a visa requirement, you must of course first apply for a Schengen visa.
As of today, the Netherlands has announced that additional measures will be taken to prevent the import of new variants of the coronavirus (Covid-19) via travelers and to further limit the number of travel movements. These measures will take effect on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 00:01 AM.
The United Kingdom has a flight ban and a docking ban on passenger ferries. The flight ban will also apply to passenger flights from:
- South Africa
- Brazil
- Argentina
- Bolivia
- Chile
- Colombia
- Ecuador
- French Guiana
- Guyana
- Panama
- Paraguay
- Peru
- Suriname
- Uruguay
- Venezuela
For the time being, this flight ban will apply for a maximum of one month, or until the proposed mandatory quarantine for travelers has been regulated by law.
Rapid test, PCR test and quarantine
In addition, all travelers from high-risk areas who come to the Netherlands by plane or ship must also be able to show a negative rapid test taken just before departure to the Netherlands. This test is a maximum of 4 hours old when boarding. This is in addition to the mandatory negative PCR test, which must have been taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. These measures also apply to travelers to the Caribbean Netherlands.
In addition, they must be quarantined for 10 days upon arrival in the Netherlands. After 5 days someone can get tested. If the result of this PCR test is negative, the quarantine ends.
Because rapid tests are not available everywhere in the vicinity of airports and ports, the double test obligation is expected to lead to a decrease in the number of trips to the Netherlands in practice.
That means it becomes difficult for some people to come home. Dutch nationals who have to travel to the Netherlands due to an emergency situation and who cannot submit a negative PCR/rapid test in time, can report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
