The flight ban for the United Kingdom, South Africa and countries in Central and South America has been extended until April 1. Outgoing Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management) announced this on Wednesday evening.
The only flight ban for Cape Verde has been lifted. Flights to and from the country will be allowed again from midnight.
The flight ban was imposed by the Dutch government because of the highly contagious variants of the COVID-19 virus that occur in these countries. The flight ban is there to prevent these variants from spreading further in the Netherlands. There is also a mooring ban for ships with passengers from the United Kingdom.
Countries with a no-fly zone
A flight ban will apply to the following countries from January 23:
- United Kingdom; and
- South Africa.
The no-fly zone also applies to the following countries in Central and South America:
- Argentina;
- Bolivian;
- Brazil;
- Chili;
- Colombia;
- Dominican Republic;
- Ecuador;
- French Guyana;
- Guyana;
- Panama;
- Paraguayan;
- Peru;
- Surinam;
- Uruguay; and
- Venezuela.
The flight ban for Cape Verde was lifted from 4:00 on March 01.
Ban on travel by ferry
Ferries with passengers from the United Kingdom are no longer allowed to moor in the Netherlands from January 23, 0.01 am.
