Which insurance policies are required for a guarantee and/or accommodation for a foreign guest subject to a visa requirement?
When a foreign guest who is subject to a visa comes to the Netherlands, it is good to look at insurance for medical expenses and liability. As a guarantor, you are financially responsible for the person from abroad.
Medical travel insurance
First of all, there is the mandatory one medical travel insurance for your foreign guest. This insurance ensures that if medical costs have to be incurred for emergency care, this can be claimed from the insurer. You should take into account that medical costs for existing illnesses, ailments and complaints did not is covered.
You should also know that there is usually an excess for medical costs. In the event of hospitalization or other medical complications, you should always contact the emergency center of your insurer. Formally, they must first give permission, especially if the costs are high. Therefore, always read the policy conditions carefully first.
If your foreign guest is traveling within the Schengen area, the policy must be for the medical travel insurance , as well as other documents and evidence. Officials/border guards may want to check these documents at a border crossing. The foreigner requiring a visa must then be able to demonstrate that he is insured for medical costs and repatriation.
Liability insurance for individuals
Your foreign guest can cause damage. Suppose he or she crosses the street without looking carefully and a car has to swerve and hits a lamppost. The damage can then run into the papers. If you are the guarantor, you can be held liable for this damage.
It is therefore important that you have one yourself personal liability insurance (AVP). Damage to third parties, caused by your guests, is normally covered by your own liability insurance. There is no legal liability for damage that guests cause to your belongings. To do this, read the policy conditions of your AVP or inquire with your insurer.
If you are not the accommodation provider but a guarantor, it is a good idea to ask your guest in advance to insure themselves against liability (world coverage), for example by taking out a policy in their home country. This reduces the risk that you may be confronted with a claim for damages if your foreign guest causes damage.

Dutch insurers are subject to strict supervision and are usually more reliable than foreign insurers. That is a nice idea in case of high costs.
No, the insurance is not intended for that. The costs for pregnancy are for your own account.
