When does your Schengen visa insurance start and end?
Your travel insurance starts and ends on the dates stated on your policy. This insurance protects you from the moment you or your luggage leave your home country for a trip. The protection ends once you return to your home country. Something special applies to medical costs due to illness: they will only be reimbursed 48 hours after you have arrived in the country of destination. If you have an accident, you are covered from day one of your insurance.
Where is your insurance valid?
This depends on what is stated in your policy. If it says 'Europe', you are only insured in European countries, including special places such as the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira and countries on the Mediterranean that are not in Europe. This also includes Russia as far as the Urals and the Caucasus, and sea travel between these areas. If it says 'World', your insurance is valid anywhere in the world.
Important to remember: The insurance is not valid in the country where you currently live. If you have insurance for special sports in Europe, this only applies in Europe, even if your policy says 'World'.
