The Schengen area is a collaboration of 26 European member states that conduct a common border and visa policy, we call these countries Schengen countries or Schengen states.
Gibraltar remains part of the Schengen area
Spain and the United Kingdom have reached an agreement in principle on controls on the border between Gibraltar and Spain. Despite Brexit, the British crown colony remains part of the Schengen area.
Agreement on improved EU information system for Schengen
Negotiators of the European Parliament and the European Council have agreed on additional guarantees for access to the various systems and databases for, among other things, issuing and checking Schengen visas.
Risk guarantee visa
If you act as guarantor for a foreign guest who is subject to a visa requirement, there are financial risks involved. With a guarantee you indicate that you financially guarantee the costs that the Dutch state must incur for the foreign national, should something go wrong. You sign that you guarantee the payment of the costs of the accommodation, medical care and repatriation of your foreign guest, up to a maximum of € 10.000 per year.
Do I need a visa when I go abroad?
As a Dutch citizen you do not need a visa for countries within the European Union, the Schengen area or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. You may need a visa for other countries.
Travelers from 14 countries are allowed to return to the Netherlands
As of July 1, 2020, the Netherlands has lifted the entry ban for travelers from 14 countries. The entry ban was imposed due to the corona pandemic.
