The European Union is taking a step forward with two innovative systems to guard its borders more intelligently. From 2024, the EES system will digitally monitor the inflow and outflow of non-EU citizens, while ETIAS will pre-screen visa-free travelers from 2025.
Croatia meets the conditions for application of the Schengen acquis
The European Council concluded on 9 December 2021 that Croatia fulfills the conditions to apply all parts of the Schengen acquis.
'EU wants to open borders for countries outside Europe from 1 July'
From 1 July, the European Commission wants to start opening borders to countries outside the EU in a controlled manner. The European Council, in which the member states are represented, must draw up a list of countries from which travelers can travel to the EU from that moment on.
