As of May 15, 2021, the Dutch government will impose a quarantine obligation upon arrival of travelers from a risk area. The mandatory quarantine will apply to foreign visitors, but also to Dutch people who return from a trip to an orange or red country/area.
The cabinet wants to introduce mandatory quarantine in mid-May, now that it appears that travelers do not comply with the corona rules. Anyone who does not comply with the obligation can be fined 435 euros. The fine does not result in a criminal record, says the Ministry of Justice and Security.
All travelers from areas with 'very high risk' must be quarantined for at least five days. If they then have a negative test result, the quarantine will end. If not, five more days will be added, for a total of ten days.
Travelers must also bring a statement with them when they come to the Netherlands containing travel and contact details and they are responsible for suitable quarantine accommodation (for example, this is also allowed with the accommodation provider).
It is not only about air passengers, traveling by car, train and bus also falls under the quarantine rule. Travelers are checked for the possession of a negative test result or a completed quarantine statement.
At the borders and at Schiphol, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee randomly checks whether travelers have completed such a statement. They must also be able to show a negative PCR test. Call teams from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport will check by means of random checks whether people comply with the quarantine rules.
