Changes regarding the application for a Schengen visa for the Netherlands
De 27 countries of the Schengen area, including the Netherlands, have jointly decided to adjust their visa code with effect from 1 February 2020. This has a number of consequences for people applying for a Schengen visa worldwide, including in Suriname.
As a result of this new policy, from February 1, 2020, you can submit a visa application up to six months before your planned trip. Previously, this period was three months. It is expected that this adjustment will lead to a better distribution of requests, which will reduce the waiting times for making an appointment during the peak period. Persons who submit a visa application well in advance of the planned trip should ensure that they apply for a visa with a longer period of validity.
The fee for applying for a visa for the Schengen area has been set at 1 euros as of 2020 February 80. The rates have been revised as the costs of processing visa applications have increased. The new amount should more or less cover the costs for the 26 Schengen member states. Please note that the VFS Global visa application office also charges 28 euros in service costs.
