Medical travel insurance for foreign tourists coming to the Netherlands

A medical travel insurance for tourists from abroad is a kind of temporary health insurance that ensures that a foreign guest is properly insured during his stay in the Netherlands.

It is not always easy for foreign tourists who come to the Netherlands to take out reliable medical travel insurance in their home country. There is the Travel Risk Insurance especially for this group (if younger than 70 years). This is international medical travel insurance and you can get it from just € 2 per day. This special travel insurance for medical costs can be taken out for non-Dutch residents, for example foreign friends or family visiting the Netherlands.

How long can a foreign tourist stay in the Netherlands?

A foreign tourist may stay in the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 consecutive days. It does not matter whether or not the tourist is required to have a visa. This is formally called a short stay.

A tourist who comes to the Netherlands may therefore only stay here for a limited period. There is no difference in the type of visit, so a business visit, partner visit or visit to the family is also included.

Travel insurance with cover for medical costs especially for foreign tourists

The Travel Risk Insurance offers balanced cover for foreign tourists. The tourist is not only insured in the Netherlands, but throughout Europe and the Mediterranean countries and can be taken out for a maximum of 90 days. This travel insurance covers SOS costs, assistance and medical costs (including hospital, ambulance, doctor's costs, dental aids in the event of an accident and medicines).

Foreign tourists? Insure them against medical expenses

Is there an acquaintance from Canada, a friend from Brazil or an aunt from the US? Then they can also be insured with De Travel Risk Insurance, because while it is a good habit in the Netherlands to take out insurance before you travel, this is often not so obvious in other countries.

You can easily take out travel insurance for your foreign guests. In that case, you are the policyholder (the one who pays the premium) and your foreign guests are the insured. You will receive the policy digitally by e-mail and can therefore easily forward it to your foreign guest. The policy conditions are also available in English.

Nb: The Travel Risk Insurance can also be taken out for Dutch people who are no longer registered in the Netherlands and can therefore no longer take out normal travel insurance. When they visit the Netherlands, they can still be insured against medical costs in this way.

Is the foreign tourist already in the Netherlands?

If the foreign tourist is already in the Netherlands, you can no longer take out Travel Risk Insurance, you must do so before he or she leaves. Travel Risk Insurance: Insurance for tourists to the Netherlands

The insurance for foreign tourists has a balanced coverage such as:

• SOS costs (including assistance, rescue and search).
• Medical costs* (including hospital, specialist and doctors).
• Repatriation (including ambulance plane and transport of mortal remains).
• Funeral or cremation costs and the arrival of family.

*Medical expenses are monetary reimbursements for doctors (fees) and costs of:

• hospitalization;
• operation and operating room use;
• prescribed X-rays and radioactive irradiations;
• prescription medications, bandages and massage;
• medically necessary transport, including any medically necessary evacuation and transport from a ski slope.

Travel documents (laissez-passer purchase costs, replacement visa or other official travel document), replacement clothing and/or toiletries and damage to accommodation are also insured. Furthermore, the cover includes:

• illness, accident or missing person of the insured;
• death of the insured, illness, accident or death of the insured's family not traveling with him;
• death of a co-insured travel companion;
• damage to property of the insured in the country of residence;
• forced delay.

Please note!: The accompanying luggage is not insured on this travel insurance policy. The emphasis is on coverage for assistance and medical expenses. Costs related to existing illnesses and defects are not reimbursed. The insurance can only be taken out for insured persons up to the age of 69.

Extra coverage (can be taken out optionally)

It is possible to expand the insurance with extra coverage, you can also insure the following:

• Winter sports and special (winter) sports – if you are going to practice special sports in Europe with your foreign guests, then opt for this extension (only coverage in Europe).
• Cancellation insurance (cancellation insurance can only be taken out when the trip is booked in the Netherlands).

Which trips are insured?

The insurance applies to both private and business trips. For private trips, the Travel Risk Insurance applies to:

• holiday with a recreational character;
• follow a course;
• light volunteer work.

Please note: For business trips, the insurance only applies if it concerns administrative, commercial and/or supervisory activities.

From when is a tourist from abroad insured?

The start date and end date of the insurance are stated on the policy schedule. The cover commences each time an insured person and/or luggage leaves the country of residence for a trip and ends upon return to the country of residence. Where is the insurance valid?

• Does the policy sheet say Europe? Then the validity is limited to the countries of Europe. This includes the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the non-European Mediterranean countries. The coverage also applies in Russia, up to the Urals and the Caucasus. Sea voyages between the areas mentioned are also covered.
• Does the policy sheet say World? Then the insurance is valid worldwide.

Please note: This insurance does not apply in the country where the foreign tourist comes from and officially lives according to your passport or visa (the country of residence). Do you also insure special sports? Then this only applies to Europe, even if it says 'World' on your policy schedule.
