Medical travel insurance for Schengen visa with Covid-19 coverage
Due to the corona pandemic, some offices of VFS Global, the external service provider of the Dutch embassy, are also requesting an English statement stating that the medical travel insurance for a visa application also provides coverage for Covid-19.
Medical travel insurance for the application for a short-stay Schengen visa must cover all costs that may arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons and/or emergency treatment during the visa holder's stay.
Expenses due to pandemic situation (including covid-19) may not be excluded from coverage. That is why VFS Global wants pandemic situations to be explicitly mentioned in the medical travel insurance. If a medical travel insurance policy excludes medical expenses due to the pandemic, the visa application may be refused.
This message is on the website of VFS Global Tunisia:
Attention: Holding a Travel Medical Insurance is a requirement to apply for a Schengen visa. The TMI has to cover any expenses that may arise in relation to repatriation for medical reasons and/or emergency treatment during the visa holder's stay. Expenses made as a result of pandemic situations (including covid-19) cannot be excluded from coverage. Inclusion of pandemic situations should be explicitly mentioned in your TMI. If your TMI does exclude the coverage of pandemic situations, your application may be refused.
If the above causes problems, you can take out medical travel insurance via this website for the application for a Schengen visa. You can then easily request an English-language insurance statement showing that the foreign guest is also insured for Covid-19.
