You can apply for a visa for a long stay in the Netherlands via the entry and residence procedure (tev)

Entry and residence procedure (tev)
With a procedure you can apply for an authorization for temporary stay (mvv) and a residence permit. That is the entry and residence procedure (tev). This is regulated in the Modern Migration Policy Act.
You apply for a stay in the Netherlands from abroad with a tev. Has the application been assessed positively? Then you will be given permission to enter the Netherlands. After entering, you can collect your residence permit at a counter of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
You can apply for the tev yourself at the Dutch embassy or consulate in your own country. Your referee can also do this for you. The sponsor is, for example, the employer in the Netherlands or your partner residing in the Netherlands.
Provisional residence permit (mvv)
If you come from outside the European Union (EU), you usually need a visa to enter our country. Immigrants who come to the Netherlands for a stay longer than 90 days need an authorization for temporary residence (mvv).
Conditions for a provisional residence permit (mvv)
You must meet a number of conditions for an mvv. Are you coming to the Netherlands for family reunification? Then you must have a Dutch or Dutch-based partner who can support the family. Do you want to study here? Then you must have sufficient prior education and be able to pay for the study yourself.
If you come to the Netherlands for family reunification, you must first pass the civic integration examination abroad. Only then can you get an mvv. You must have basic knowledge of the Dutch language and society before you settle here. This way you can integrate faster. Residents of the EU do not need an MVV
Are you from a country within the EU? Then you may come and live in the Netherlands without an mvv and residence permit. For a number of countries, immigrants do need a residence permit, but not an mvv. This applies to Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the United States (US), South Korea, Monaco and Vatican City. You can apply for a residence permit in the Netherlands.
Apply for a residence permit in the Netherlands
Are you an immigrant from one of these countries? As soon as you are in the Netherlands, you must apply for a temporary residence permit. For example, you need to:
- demonstrate that you can support yourself, for example by showing an employment contract;
- can identify themselves with a valid identity document, such as a passport;
- prove that you have no criminal record.
Assessment of application for residence permit
The IND checks whether you meet all the conditions for obtaining a residence permit. You will hear within 90 days whether you will receive a residence permit or not. The residence permit is usually valid for 5 years and can be extended. After 5 years you can apply for a permanent residence permit. Has your application been rejected? Then you can object to this or appeal.
MVV and Schengen countries
When you have an MVV, you can also do other Schengen countries visits. You may spend 90 days in a period of 180 days in another Schengen country.
