According to the VisaGuide Passport Index by 2023, the Japanese, Singaporean and Italian passports will be the most powerful passports in the world. These passports allow holders to travel most easily without having to apply for a visa first. The Dutch passport scores 19th place.
The Japanese passport is number one, followed by the Singaporean and Italian passports. The US and UK Passport have lost their position in the top 20, ranking 40th and 27th respectively. The passports of countries in conflict, such as Afghanistan, Somalia and Syria, are among the weakest passports in the world.
The passport of the United Arab Emirates is the most powerful passport in the Middle East. Kosovo's passport is the weakest of all European passports, ranking 195th in the index.
Dutch passport
The Dutch passport, like almost all European passports, scores well when it comes to visa-free travel to other countries. With your Dutch passport you can travel visa-free to 103 countries. An eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required for 11 countries. You can travel to 40 countries without a passport. For 34 countries you have to buy a 'Visa-on-Arrival' on arrival. A so-called eVisa applies to 9 countries, which must be applied for online before you travel. For 29 countries, a visa must first be applied for before you can travel.
Visa-free travel
A visum is a permission to legally enter another country. However, travelers do not always need a visa when traveling to another country; many countries have visa liberalization agreements allowing visitors visa-free can travel between countries.
Usually, visa-free arrangements are only applied for tourist or business purposes and allow short stays of 30 to 90 days. Travelers still need a valid travel document despite a visa exemption. Countries with a visa-free agreement usually have good diplomatic relations and the beneficiary country is often well developed economically.
