A number of nationalities are allowed traveling to the Netherlands without a visa. You can stay in the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days without a visa. In 2023, there will be some changes in the area of visa-free travel to Schengen due to the introduction of ETIAS.
Travelers who are allowed to travel to the Schengen area without a visa must request prior permission to visit these Schengen countries from May 2023. This so-called travel authorization is not a visa. You request the travel authorization via the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). The application can only be made online. the exact date of the change is not yet known.
What is ETIAS?
ETIAS is the European travel information and authorization system. Nationals of 63 third countries who want to travel to the EU/Schengen and who do not require a visa must first apply for a travel authorization from the introduction of ETIAS in order to travel to the Schengen area.
Nationals of visa-exempt countries will still be able to travel to the EU without a visa. However, they must first apply for a travel authorization via ETIAS before they can travel to the EU. ETIAS will be a simple, fast and user-friendly system: in more than 95% of cases, a positive answer will be received within a few minutes. The ETIAS travel authorization remains valid for three years. An ETIAS travel authorization is valid for an unlimited number of entries.
The applicant for an ETIAS only needs a travel document (passport or equivalent) to complete it. Completing the application will take no more than 10 minutes. Every applicant between the ages of 18 and 70 must pay an electronic fee of 7 euros.
