Who from mid-2024 to Europe wants to travel and does not require a visa, has to visit 30 European countries, a ETIAS travel authorization necessary. You can read here how this procedure will work and how you can apply for an ETIAS travel authorization.
The ETIAS travel authorization is an entry requirement for visa-exempt citizens traveling to one of the 30 European countries. This permission is linked to the traveler's passport and is valid for a maximum of three years, or until the passport expires. When you receive a new passport, you must apply for a new ETIAS travel authorization.
With a valid ETIAS travel authorization you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you like for a short stay, normally up to a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period. However, it does not provide guaranteed access. Upon arrival, a border officer will ask you to show your passport and any other documents, such as a medical travel insurance.

Apply for an ETIAS
Applying for an ETIAS travel authorization must be done online, which can be done directly at the EU portal or via an intermediary. Most requests are processed within minutes. However, processing your request may take longer. In that case you will receive a decision within four days. Please note that this period may be extended by up to 14 days if additional information or documentation is requested from you, or by up to 30 days if you are invited for an interview. It is therefore wise to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization well in advance of your planned trip.
After the application and allocation
You will receive a confirmation email after submitting your application, containing your unique ETIAS application number: keep this number safe for later use. Once your application has been processed, you will receive another e-mail with information about the result. When receiving your ETIAS travel authorization, make sure that your name, passport number and other information are correct: if a mistake has been made, you will not be allowed to cross the border.
Period of validity of your ETIAS
Your ETIAS travel authorization is valid for three years, or until the travel document you used with your application expires – whichever comes first. It is intended for short stays: a valid ETIAS travel authorization entitles you to stay for a maximum of 180 days within a period of 90 days in the European countries that require ETIAS. You must be in possession of a valid ETIAS travel authorization during your entire stay. You can leave and come back to Europe at any time, as long as you respect this time limit.
On arrival at the border in Europe
Since your ETIAS travel authorization is linked to your travel document, make sure you have the same document with you that you used in your ETIAS application. Otherwise, you will not be allowed to board your flight, bus or ship, or enter any of the European countries that require ETIAS. Having a valid ETIAS travel authorization does not guarantee automatic entry to the 30 European countries.
