In 2023, the Royal Military Police intercepted an unprecedented number of 1.710 fraudulent travel, residence and identity documents, the highest number in five years. Passports and residence documents in particular were forged, with a notable increase in fraud by Indian and Syrian travelers. Most fraud cases were discovered at airports, mainly at Schiphol, but also at land and maritime borders.
As of 1 December 2022, Turks will need an airport transit visa when transferring at Schiphol
For Turkish travelers who want to transfer at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport, the so-called transit passengers, different rules will apply from 1 December 2022. From that date, Turks who want to transfer to another flight at Schiphol must first apply for an airport transit visa.
Marechaussee refused 2.109 travelers last year
Last year, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee refused more than 2.100 travelers at the border entry to the Netherlands. Most individuals were refused because they could pose a threat to public health.
Travel from Schiphol and the Schengen zone
The Netherlands is part of the Schengen zone and that has a number of advantages for travelers. For example, there are no border controls within the Schengen area.
