Take biometric data
When applying for a Schengen visa for the first time, there is a good chance that you will have to provide biometric data. Biometric data are characteristics that make it possible to establish a person's identity. Unique parts of the body are used for this purpose, such as a fingerprint.
If you have to provide fingerprints, this will be done when you submit the application. These biometric data remain valid for 5 years. For some applicants, such as children under the age of 12, this is not necessary.

What do I have to do to issue biometric data?
You simply need to place your hand on a fingerprint scanner, and a scan of your fingertips will be made. Along with your fingerprint, the passport photo is also scanned. The biometric registration process takes a maximum of 5 minutes. The data is stored in the Visa Information System (VIS) for 5 years .
If you have injuries to your fingertips, you can only make an appointment for the visa application once your injuries have healed.
If you refuse to provide biometric data, your visa application will not be accepted.
Visa applicants under the age of 12, persons who are unable to give permission, or persons who are physically unable to have the fingerprint scan taken can suffice with a passport photo.
