How can I apply for a Schengen visa?
You can apply for a Schengen visa by visiting the website of the Dutch embassy of the country where the foreign national comes from. However, it is wise to first check whether the person concerned is required to have a visa for the Netherlands.
You must de application for a Schengen visa to the embassy of the country you intend to visit. If you plan to visit several Schengen countries, you must apply for the visa at the embassy of the Schengen country where you will be staying the longest.
Visa-required nationalities
Whether you are required to have a visa for a visit to the Netherlands depends on your nationality. Do you have more than 1 nationality? Then the passport you are traveling with determines whether you need a Schengen visa.
The following nationalities are subject to a visa requirement and must apply for a Schengen visa if they want to travel to the Netherlands or other Schengen countries:

Schengen short stay visa
Stay in the Schengen area is limited to a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period. This means that someone who has been in the Schengen area for 90 days cannot return until they have been outside the area for 90 days. The Schengen visa is in principle valid for 6 months from the date of issue. The stay in the Schengen area must take place within these 6 months. The return journey may therefore not take place after the expiry date.
Apply for a Schengen visa in person
You must always apply for a Schengen visa in person. It is not possible for someone else to apply for a visa on your behalf. This means that you always have to go to the Dutch representation yourself. You often have to submit the Schengen visa application to an external agency: the external service provider (EDV). The Dutch government uses this Vfs global. This office will receive the application and send it to the Dutch representation for processing. In this case, in addition to the costs for the visa application, you also pay an additional amount to the external service provider.
A Schengen visa application can be submitted from 1 February 2020 at the earliest 6 months and at the latest 15 calendar days (due to the normal maximum decision period) before the start of the intended travel date. It is therefore advisable to submit the application well in advance.
