Note: This information is no longer current. Since September 17, 2022, there are no longer any corona rules for travelers to the Netherlands. You can travel to the Netherlands without a long-distance relationship statement, proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or negative test result. If you are subject to a visa requirement, you must of course first apply for a Schengen visa.
The Council of Ministers has decided to lift the entry ban for foreign business travelers and top athletes. The relaxation for business people will take effect on September 21 and the relaxation for top athletes will take effect on September 14.
The world has become a lot smaller for many people due to the corona virus. Since March 18, an entry restriction has been in force in the Netherlands to prevent and control the spread of the virus. This means that persons from third countries to all EU and Schengen Member States and the United Kingdom will not be admitted if the journey is not necessary. There is also an urgent advice to quarantine at home for travelers returning from countries or areas that have an orange or red travel advice due to the spread of the corona virus.
Top athletes and business people from outside the EU are allowed to travel to the Netherlands
The impact of the entry ban is major and has a major impact on personal lives as well as on our economy and society. Due to this major negative impact, the social and economic importance and the long duration of the entry ban, the Council of Ministers has decided to allow exceptions to the entry ban for specific categories, such as top athletes and people from the business community.
Easing in other sectors
In addition, the government recognizes the need to relax the entry restriction for highly qualified professionals from the cultural and creative sector, journalists and researchers. That is why a legally sound and workable action framework is being drawn up for these groups as well. The government aims to establish these conditions as soon as possible, after which the entry restriction for the Netherlands can also be relaxed for the groups that fall under the conditions.
