For requesting ETIAS travel authorization visa-free travelers from third countries are not required to provide health information or biometric data.
As soon ETIAS will be introduced (mid-2024). travelers without a visa need to apply for the travel authorization online in order to travel to most European countries. There are quite a few misunderstandings about the information that must be provided to obtain an ETIAS.
What information is required for ETIAS?
The online application form for ETIAS asks travelers for personal information, including name, address, passport details and current occupation. It also includes questions about previous travel to conflict zones and any criminal convictions. In addition, travelers must enter their travel plans Europe to announce.
Travelers who indicate that they have a family member who is a citizen of a European country, for which an ETIAS is required, will also be asked to provide more information about these family ties. If someone else is submitting the application on your behalf, that person must also provide their name, contact details, and relationship information with you.
What information is not required when applying for ETIAS?
During the ETIAS application process, you are not required to provide any information about your health or vaccination status. There is also no request for biometric data, such as fingerprints.
How does the application process work?
You can apply for ETIAS via the official ETIAS website or via the ETIAS mobile app (not yet available). The application fee is 7 euros, unless you qualify for one of the exemptions.
Once submitted, the application is automatically compared with data stored in other European databases, such as the Schengen Information System (SIS), the Visa Information System (VIS) and the Entry and Exit System (EES).
The automatic processing usually takes no more than a few minutes and you will receive the answer via e-mail. In exceptional cases, where more information is needed to make a decision on the application, it may take up to 30 days to receive a response. It is therefore advisable to submit your application well in advance.
